Yesterday’s NHL free agent frenzy saw just one comrade ink a new deal, as 38-year-old netminder Evgeni Nabokov signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. After returning from a stint in the KHL, the veteran keeper spent the past three seasons manning the Islanders crease where he posted a record of 57-43-18.
The new deal is worth $1.65 million which is a fair price for a player at the twilight of his career and who will be backing up Ben Bishop while the Bolts young talent fine tune their game in Syracuse.
This will likely be the last team Nabby plays for after playing the majority of his career in San Jose and its expected he will play a handful of games as he eases into a back-up role for the first time in his long career.
